Lyngen Alps & Arctic Coast Private Tour Itinerary
On the morning of your tour, your friendly private driver-guide will collect you from your accommodation in Tromsø. You’ll relax in a luxury executive vehicle as your private guide takes you northeast, with views of Tromsø’s waterfront and Arctic landscapes. Your guide will take you across the Usslfjord, and you’ll start to see the glacier peak of the Lyngen Alps in the distance. Feel free to ask your private guide to stop for a photo along the fjord.
Lyngseidet Village
You’ll arrive at Lyngseidet, a beautiful Arctic village between fjord and alpine peaks. Enjoy a guided tour of the village, passing colorful wooden houses with snowy mountains in the distance. Lyngeside is part of the region that is the native home of the Sámi people. As you explore the village, your guide will explain the Sámi culture, including the importance of reindeer herding to Sámi life and how life in Lyngseidet has been shaped by the landscape and proximity to the sea. You may even notice exhibits throughout the village dedicated to Sámi culture and traditions.
Enjoy a guided tour of Gammelgården, a small museum that explains what life was like in Lyngen when the village served as a hub for commerce and coastal trade. Admire exhibits featuring antique tools, fishing equipment, and Sámi artifacts.
Finish in the village enjoying a coffee and Scandinavian pastry while enjoying views of the fjord.
Lyngen Alps Scenic Drive
After you’ve warmed up with a coffee, your private guide will take you on a breathtaking drive through the Lyngen Alps, often referred to as the “Alps of the North.” As you journey along, you’ll see some of Northern Norway’s most jaw-dropping natural scenery, including clear rivers, mountain ridges, and picturesque forests. You’ll spend time at two notable stops along the way:
- Furuflaten Viewpoint – Enjoy panoramic views of the Lyngenfjord and Lyngen Alps. Your guide will take you on a leisurely stroll, where you can take in some of the breathtaking surrounding sights.
- Steindalsbreen Glacier Trailhead – Next is a standout stop in Lyngsdalen. The Steindalsbreen Glacier Trailhead is a beautiful hiking trail where, as you walk along, you can admire a colorful valley shaped by glaciers, streams of water, and views of the Steindalsbreen Glacier.
Arctic Coast Route
In the afternoon, your private guide will take you on a scenic drive along the Arctic Coast Route, circling the northern coastline of the Lyngen Peninsula. It’s one of the most scenic driving routes in Northern Norway, and your private guide will stop at the best viewpoints, where you can get photos of the fjord, shoreline, and mountain range.
You have the option for your guide to lead you to the Lyngstuva Lighthouse above the Arctic Ocean. It takes about a 30-minute walk to reach the lighthouse, but you’ll enjoy incredible views of the Arctic Ocean. Your guide can even take you part of the route if you would rather not complete the full 60-minute round journey.
As you drive along, you can see beautiful Arctic birds, such as ptarmigan and oystercatchers. Depending on the time of year, you may even notice reindeer grazing near the road.
